About the position

The IT Systems Manager (IT Senior Associate, Level 2) plays a crucial role in overseeing complex technology-related projects within the Information Technology department at Hostos Community College. This position is responsible for managing the migration and maintenance of the M365 environment for both students and staff/faculty, ensuring that the college's identity management requirements are met through the implementation of Single Sign-On (SSO) systems. The IT Systems Manager will serve as the primary contact for Microsoft Exchange administration, server management, and user management, leading a team of technicians in integrating security measures such as Cortex XDR to enhance the college's IT security framework. In addition to technical responsibilities, the IT Systems Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the IT department, including the management of storage, security, and cloud environments. This role requires collaboration with other IT managers to streamline operations and build sustainable technical environments. The IT Systems Manager will also participate in recruiting, training, and supervising IT staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to departmental policies and procedures. The position demands proactive identification of system upgrades and participation in emergency support activities to maintain system security and uptime. The IT Systems Manager will also be responsible for writing and maintaining scripts for security standards, monitoring staff performance, and managing hardware and software installations. This role requires a strong commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with technological advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the migration and maintenance of the M365 environment for students and staff/faculty.
  • Interpret identity management requirements and support the implementation of SSO.
  • Serve as the point person for Microsoft Exchange administration and user management.
  • Lead technicians in integrating XDR agents and defining technical requirements.
  • Build a push environment for end-point devices to comply with security needs.
  • Coordinate between the Network group and end-point imaging group for security updates.
  • Assist with management of storage, security, and cloud environments.
  • Implement and maintain computer and network service technologies.
  • Participate in recruiting, selecting, and training IT employees.
  • Oversee operations, personnel, and projects to ensure high-quality service.
  • Collaborate with other IT managers to streamline operations.
  • Oversee maintenance and support for Windows-based server operating systems.
  • Identify needed platform/system upgrades for optimal technology infrastructure.
  • Participate in emergency support and off-hour activities for system security.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and legal regulations.
  • Plan and design technologies to meet business needs.
  • Serve as Systems Administrator, Server Group Manager, and PC Support Group Manager.
  • Supervise teams responsible for critical IT services and support.
  • Develop and ensure security procedures for software and user data.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on critical servers.
  • Write and maintain scripts for security standards implementation.
  • Monitor IT staff productivity and conduct performance reviews.
  • Manage hardware and software installations and upgrades.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Ten years of experience in a computer or technology-related position, or an Associate's degree plus eight years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus six years of experience.
  • Demonstrated English Language proficiency.
  • A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license in New York State may be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in MS Server maintenance and administration.
  • 5+ years of experience managing VMware Environments.
  • 3+ years of experience in SolarWinds LEM.
  • 5+ years of experience administering desktop environments.
  • Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of experience managing Mobile Device Management solutions.
  • Experience with OneLogin SSO/MFA configuration and administration.
  • MCSE: Core Infrastructure Certification.
  • Knowledge of CUNY enterprise applications such as ERP, LMS, SSO, Email systems, and Security environments.
  • Expertise with Mobile Device support, Apple/MacOS and Windows OS desktop support.
  • Experience with remote troubleshooting tools, imaging tools, VPN, and push technology.
  • Experience supervising an IT service/support team of at least 5 staff members.
  • Experience working with multiple units and/or organizations.
