The IT Tech Support Specialist at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) plays a crucial role in the Information Technology Services Office of Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). This position is primarily responsible for reviewing university procurement requests that involve data or technology components. The specialist will assess potential purchases for information privacy and security considerations, system integrability, and compliance with established standards. This includes evaluating hardware, software subscriptions, Software as a Service (SaaS), web-based products, mobile applications, and other technology solutions, whether they are free or paid. In this role, the IT Tech Support Specialist will directly interface with key partners across the university to ensure that procurement requests are reviewed in accordance with university policies and procedures. The specialist will communicate with campus constituents to gather necessary information, provide guidance, and support the efficient submission and review of requests. Additionally, this position will assist in managing solutions and systems that facilitate Vendor Risk Management and Governance, Risk, and Compliance processes, ensuring that the university's information assets are protected and regulatory obligations are met. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IT governance and data governance as it relates to IT solutions, as well as the ability to interpret technical contract terms and conditions. Strong communication skills are essential, as the specialist will interact with hardware and software vendors, campus clients, and other IT professionals. The position requires the ability to adapt to shifting priorities associated with service continuity, purchasing timelines, and the criticality of business operations.
