About the position

The IT Technical Associate II-Network Engineer III position is part of the Network Engineering Team at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This role focuses on providing data network connectivity and tier 2/3 support across the campus, including managing wired and wireless networks, firewall support, and various network services. The position involves supervising student employees and graduate assistants, ensuring operational effectiveness, and enhancing service delivery within the IT department.

Responsibilities

• Support campus area network infrastructure to ensure appropriate levels of hardware and software.
• Install and test hardware and software for network enhancements.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network-related issues for campus personnel.
• Conduct research into network architecture and support the network infrastructure through investigation and reporting.
• Supervise and mentor student employees, assisting them in troubleshooting and training.
• Develop and review documentation related to network support and operations.
• Provide training to other employees, particularly student employees, as needed.
• Respond to data infrastructure problems on a 24x7 basis as part of on-call duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in network infrastructure, remote access systems, or Internet connectivity and support services.
• Three years of experience in switching, routing, Wi-Fi support, firewall support, and DNS/DHCP services.
• One of the following certifications: CompTIA's Network+, Cisco's CCNA, Extreme Network's ECNA, CompTIA Security+, or Linux+.
