About the position

The IT Technical Project Manager is responsible for leading complex, enterprise-wide projects, focusing on analysis, scope finalization, estimation, technical design, implementation, and managing all phases of the project. This role requires establishing strong relationships with IT leadership and departmental managers, ensuring effective project delivery while managing risks and issues.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with IT senior leadership and departmental managers.
  • Responsible for project planning, estimation, negotiation, change management, and delivery.
  • Identify risks and issues, working with senior leaders to mitigate them.
  • Document requirements, create visual diagrams/prototypes, review specifications, and support UAT and post-production roll-out.
  • Develop business and technical requirement documents and technical specifications.
  • Support system design, SQL reports, quality assurance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Manage change control effectively considering business priorities, schedule, and budget.
  • Compile detailed metrics and status reports for senior leadership.
  • Work with offshore developers and external vendors to ensure specifications are understood and implemented properly.
  • Participate in establishing and improving best practices, templates, policies, and tools for organizational capabilities.
  • Track issues through JIRA and maintain regular updates to sprint progress.
  • Perform other day-to-day activities required for the IT department.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of IT Technical project management experience, planning, tracking, and managing projects that successfully met timelines and budgets.
  • Working experience with Agile/Scrum SDLC methodology.
  • Experience in vendor management roles with expert skills in requirements gathering.
  • Ability to communicate technically complex IT concepts to internal and external business clients.
  • Experience in P&C business implementing new applications and major enhancements, including underwriting and claims systems.
  • Experience in data integration and data quality projects.
  • Ability to work with technical teams (developers, architects, QA, infrastructure), business partners, and software vendors.
  • Excellent understanding of how technology impacts the business and evaluate new packages and software for business needs.
  • Hands-on development experience in the past is a plus.
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of technologies like React, Java, .net, Rest API, XML, and/or JSON languages.
  • Strong SQL skills to query SQL databases.
  • Managed analytics and data-related projects.
  • Experience in P&C Insurance Policy Administration or claims systems (Duck Creek, Guidewire, etc.).
  • Experience in release management and managed automated deployments using CI/CD tools like Teamcity or Jenkins.
  • Networking concepts as it relates to system design and implementation.
