About the position

The IT Technical Writer is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining documentation related to applications, websites, and programs. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that technical documents are accurate, clear, and user-friendly. The writer will produce high-quality documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and technical designs, while adhering to established style guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain application, website, and program-related documentation.
  • Work with stakeholders and technical owners to generate and revise documents as necessary.
  • Update document repositories and standardize document naming conventions.
  • Review, format, and proofread technical procedure documents for final approval.
  • Produce documentation appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Document procedures, use cases, requirements, and technical designs.
  • Create process flows and networking diagrams.
  • Use Google or Microsoft applications to create and edit documents and diagrams.
  • Collaborate with a team of analysts, developers, engineers, and IT security professionals.
  • Resolve content issues or gaps with contributors.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to specified standards.
  • Work with business and system SMEs to ensure accurate communication of policies and procedures.
  • Translate technical source materials into user-friendly language without compromising accuracy.
  • Continually improve and apply up-to-date technical writing skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, technical writing, computer science, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrable experience in technical writing, preferably in an IT environment.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort with complex technical concepts.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with IT systems, software development, or networking.
