About the position

The IT Technical Writer is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining documentation related to applications, websites, and programs. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that technical documents are accurate, clear, and user-friendly. The writer will produce high-quality documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and technical designs, while adhering to established style guidelines and best practices in technical writing.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain application, website, and program-related documentation.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders and technical owners to generate or revise documents as necessary.
  • Update document repositories and standardize document naming conventions.
  • Review, format, and proofread technical procedure documents for final approval.
  • Produce high-quality documentation appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Document procedures, use cases, requirements, and technical designs.
  • Create process flows, networking, and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Collaborate with a team of analysts, developers, engineers, and IT security professionals.
  • Resolve content issues or gaps with contributors.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to specified standards.
  • Work directly with business and system subject matter experts to ensure accurate communication of policies and procedures.
  • Translate technical source materials into user-friendly language without compromising accuracy.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Technical Writing experience, creating IT user manuals, online help, white papers, training materials, release notes, and process documentation.
  • Experience creating/editing documents and diagrams using Google.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn and explain complex technical concepts simply.
  • Experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, technical writing, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with IT systems, software development, or networking.
  • Understanding of the software development life-cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with developers, engineers, and product managers.
