About the position

The IT Technician 1 position is a permanent, full-time role within the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, specifically in the Information Technology Division. This position is designed for individuals who are in a trainee capacity, allowing them to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the IT Technician role. The incumbent will be responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining networks, as well as providing help desk user support and managing mainframe and server operations. In this role, the IT Technician 1 will monitor service desk user support, ensuring that all calls are recorded and tracked using the SolarWinds ticketing system. They will be tasked with identifying and resolving problems either independently or through appropriate referrals. The technician will assist users with logon/logoff procedures for mainframes, servers, and the network, and will determine the nature of outages, contacting the appropriate personnel or companies as needed. Additionally, they will be responsible for cloning or restoring personal computer (PC) images and restoring applications and data from backup media. Typical tasks for this position include assisting users with network, application, system, or local hardware problems, accessing mainframe or departmental servers, and instructing users on PC operation and faults. The technician will also assist IT staff with installations or resolutions as required, and will independently resolve many users' PC issues, including email and application problems. The role requires the technician to use utilities to check for network connectivity and establish user rights. This position requires a valid driver's license or equivalent mobility, and candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are also required. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician Trainee in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Education above the high school level may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits equals six months of the required experience up to a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
