About the position

The IT Technician is responsible for providing onsite IT support at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, coordinating with an offsite IT contractor. This part-time role involves maintaining essential IT operations, managing hardware and software, and assisting staff with technical issues. The position requires effective communication and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth IT operations within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with offsite IT contractor to maintain essential IT operations.
  • Answer general support requests and provide onsite IT support.
  • Process invoices related to IT and phone services.
  • Manage inventory of computers and laptops, including setup and disposal of old machines.
  • Install and configure workstation software, hardware, printers, and phones.
  • Assist Facilities team in setting up new workstations and data lines.
  • Ensure workspaces have required hardware and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Research and procure replacement hardware with Budget Manager approval.
  • Install and support operational hardware like cameras and security gates.
  • Train employees in using software and hardware as needed.
  • Respond promptly to staff requests for assistance with hardware and software failures.
  • Research and recommend software solutions to streamline operations.
  • Manage organization of unused hardware and properly dispose of e-waste.
  • Assist with processing IT-related invoices through accounts payable software.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange and Office 365.
  • Experience in systems management, network management, and IT troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with software deployment and patch management.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with users at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Helpdesk experience.
  • An associate's degree in computer science or equivalent certification.
  • One year of front-facing customer and technical support experience.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
