About the position

The IT Technician 5 position within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health in Las Vegas, NV, is a permanent, full-time role responsible for the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of networks, as well as providing help desk user support and managing mainframe and server operations. The incumbent will possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency that allows them to perform work independently with minimal additional training. This role is crucial for maintaining the agency's desktop environment and ensuring that help desk responses for support and maintenance of application and system problems are effectively managed for WAN/LAN users. The IT Technician will be tasked with upgrading and installing software and hardware on networked desktop systems across the state. Additionally, the position involves monitoring and managing advanced and specialized agency software and inventory. As part of the responsibilities, the technician is expected to be available for call-back during public health incidents or emergencies, which may require working a non-traditional schedule or at different duty stations during such events. Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks.
  • Provide help desk user support and manage mainframe and server operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of the agency desktop environment.
  • Respond to help desk requests for support and maintenance of application and system problems for WAN/LAN users.
  • Upgrade and install software and hardware on networked desktop systems statewide.
  • Monitor and manage advanced/specialized agency software and inventory.
  • Be available for call-back during public health incidents and emergencies to perform specific duties or other requested tasks.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • Two years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
