About the position

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is a constitutional officer whose duties are mandated by the Code of Virginia. The Clerk's Office provides a variety of statutory and local services for residents, business professionals, legal professionals, judges, public safety officials, and various state and local government agencies. The Clerk serves as the recorder of deeds and probate judge, issues marriage licenses, and acts as the official court administrator for all civil and criminal court cases. This includes creating and maintaining all court files and records, preparing court orders and jury lists, contacting jurors, and issuing summons and court processes. The IT Technician II position is crucial for administering system controls for several key systems, including the Virginia Supreme Court Case Management System, Financial Management System, Land Records Recordation, Image Retention and Public Access System, Officer of the Court Remote Access System, Land Records Secure Remote Access System, Jury Management System, and Case Imaging System. The role involves acting as a liaison between the County and State DIT staff regarding the maintenance and inventory of computers and related equipment, as well as providing first-level support for video conferencing and evidence presentation in the Court Complex. In addition to technical support, the IT Technician II will advise the IT Manager and Civil and Land Records Manager on the development and implementation of the E-filing system, provide regular written progress reports to the Clerk and Chief Deputies, and ensure compliance with County Internet, E-mail, and phone policies. The position also requires conducting feasibility studies for new systems, developing long-range plans for office automation, and managing the operations of all Clerk's Office websites to ensure they are current and accurate. The hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Administer system controls for various court management systems.
  • Act as a liaison for the County and State DIT staff regarding computer maintenance and inventory.
  • Serve as the point of contact for remote access account customers, addressing IT-related issues.
  • Provide first-level support for video conferencing and evidence presentation in the Court Complex.
  • Advise the IT Manager and Civil and Land Records Manager on E-filing system development and implementation.
  • Provide regular written progress reports to the Clerk and Chief Deputies.
  • Monitor staff compliance with County Internet, E-mail, and phone policies.
  • Conduct feasibility and cost comparison studies for new systems or technical equipment.
  • Develop and execute long-range plans for office automated systems.
  • Ensure users follow Security Awareness training procedures.
  • Manage operations of all Clerk's Office websites, ensuring accuracy and currency.
  • Collaborate with County DIT team to implement network, server, software, and hardware changes.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (Associate degree preferred).
  • Four (4) years of related technical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
