About the position

The IT Technician for the Integrated Shipboard Network System (ISNS) plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational integrity and reliability of the ISNS AN/USQ-153 and its associated equipment. This position involves providing comprehensive technical support, conducting system testing, and performing inspections and assessments to identify and rectify system faults across all variants of the ISNS. The technician will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving anomalies related to installation, operation, maintenance, and connectivity issues, ensuring that all systems function optimally. In addition to technical support, the IT Technician will provide onboard maintenance training to ship's force technicians, equipping them with the necessary skills for the operation, repair, maintenance, and logistics support of the ISNS. The role requires collaboration with Ship's Force technicians and government personnel to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation and testing. The technician will also conduct equipment checks, document conditions and parameters, and oversee corrective maintenance actions to ensure compliance with operational standards. Effective communication is essential in this role, as the technician will be expected to provide clear written and verbal updates and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The development of technical and engineering data for Planned Maintenance Systems, technical manuals, troubleshooting procedures, and operational procedures is also a key responsibility. The technician will suggest engineering changes to enhance the quality and reliability of systems, facilitating easier installation, maintenance, and repair processes. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, requiring flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, system testing, inspections and assessments to assess, inspect and correct system faults within all variants of ISNS AN/USQ-153, including associated equipment.
  • Identify and correct anomalies associated with installation, operation, maintenance and connectivity problems.
  • Provide onboard maintenance training to ship's force technicians in the operation, repair, maintenance and logistics support of ISNS.
  • Assist Ship's Force technicians and government personnel at assigned locations to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation and test.
  • Observe/conduct equipment checks, note condition and parameters for any out of specification readings or settings, as requested.
  • Conduct technical oversight of corrective maintenance actions.
  • Provide effective written and verbal communication and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Develop technical/engineering data for Planned Maintenance Systems, technical manuals, trouble-shooting procedures, drawing updates, operation procedures, and maintainability improvements.
  • Provide on the job training to Ships Force during any shipboard evolutions.
  • Suggest equipment/system engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability and to facilitate installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in the troubleshooting, assessment and repair of the following systems, with experience gained within the last 3 years: AN/USQ-153, COMPOSE 3.5, COMPOSE 4.0, AN/UYQ-96 Computer Network Defense - CND, AN/USQ-208 Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services - CANES.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair and assessment on the following systems/equipment: VMWARE 3.5/4.0, EMC Storage Device, IBM Blade Centers, Crystal Servers, Alcatel 7700/6850/9700 Switches.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain/maintain one (U.S. Citizenship required).
