About the position

The IT Technician (Level 1/Level 2) position at Hayward Lumber is a full-time role based in Monterey, CA, offering a competitive hourly pay range of $25 to $35. This position is crucial for providing IT support related to core business applications and operating systems, specifically BisTrack. The technician will be responsible for addressing technical issues that arise within the company's network infrastructure, including WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security protocols. The role also involves implementing and supporting remote access solutions such as VPN and Terminal Services, ensuring that employees can work effectively from various locations. In addition to technical support, the IT Technician will monitor alerts from the remote monitoring and management system, responding to incidents through a service ticketing system. Effective communication with internal customers is essential, as the technician will need to keep them informed about the progress of incidents and any upcoming changes or outages. The technician will also assist in disaster recovery efforts in the event of significant system failures, ensuring that the company can quickly recover and maintain operations. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems, as well as responding to support requests via phone, email, and in-person interactions. Documentation and tracking of issues are critical to ensure timely resolutions, and participation in discovery sessions with internal customers will help understand their technical and functional requirements. The technician must be available for on-call support and may need to travel as required to address service calls outside the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide IT support for issues related to core business applications and operating systems (BisTrack).
  • Offer basic technical support for network-related issues: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security.
  • Implement and support basic remote access solutions: VPN and Terminal Services.
  • Review remote monitoring and management system alerts, responding accordingly through service ticketing system.
  • Communicate with internal customers as needed, keeping them informed about incident progress and upcoming changes or outages.
  • Assist with disaster recovery solutions in the event of a major system failure.
  • Identify, research, and resolve technical problems.
  • Respond to technical support requests via phone, email, and in person to support end users on various issues.
  • Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure timely resolution to open tickets.
  • Participate in discovery sessions with internal customers to understand their technical and functional requirements.
  • Be available for on-call support, travel required as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced technical support environment.
  • Professional IT Certifications, such as Microsoft MCSE, Citrix CCEA or CCIA, Cisco CCNA, or VMware VCP - Required.
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems, business applications, printing systems, and network systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, active listening, and customer care.
  • Diagnostic skills for technical issues.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Technical awareness: ability to align resources with technical issues appropriately.
  • Proficient in support tools, techniques, and the use of technology to deliver IT services.
  • Typing skills to ensure accurate and quick entry of service request details.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-moving environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some physical activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment are required when handling service calls outside the department.
