About the position

The IT Technician position at Sinclair College is responsible for supporting over 4700 computers, podium equipment, and printers utilized by faculty, staff, and students. This role encompasses managing hardware, software, and network applications essential for the operational tasks of the college community. The technician serves as the first line of defense in emergency situations, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues to maintain a seamless educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first line of defense for emergency technical situations for all customers, resolving emergency tickets within one working day.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot notebook PCs to ensure functionality on the network.
  • Participate in maintaining the spare parts inventory by notifying the supervisor of needed parts and purchasing specialized parts for customers.
  • Install, configure, network, troubleshoot various hardware problems, and maintain academic hardware configurations, peripheral devices, and network printers.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network cabling, concentrators, hubs, switches, and routers.
  • Install, configure, network, troubleshoot, and maintain Windows images, academic images, operating systems, and departmental software, updating as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate's degree in computer science or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience supporting a large multi-user environment required.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and understanding of various operating systems, software, and computer hardware required.
  • Thorough understanding of electronics, basic networking, and analytical troubleshooting strongly preferred.
  • Ability to resolve problems and complete tasks in a timely manner required.
  • Ability to adapt to a continuously changing environment and challenges relative to this position to meet customer needs required.
