About the position

The IT Technician at General Stamping & Metalworks is a pivotal role responsible for delivering exceptional IT support and help desk assistance to team members. This position requires a strong background in first-level IT support, with a focus on troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues. The ideal candidate will possess excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users. The IT Technician will be expected to respond to support requests via phone, email, and in-person, ensuring timely resolution and documentation using the company's IT ticketing system. In addition to providing support, the IT Technician will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems, printers, and other peripheral devices. This includes assisting with the setup and maintenance of user accounts, conducting regular system maintenance and updates, and collaborating with other IT team members to resolve complex issues. The role also involves providing training and guidance to users on best practices and efficient use of technology, as well as maintaining an inventory of IT assets to ensure proper asset management. As a growing organization, General Stamping & Metalworks is responsive to a changing market, and the tasks and requirements for this position may evolve over time. The IT Technician will report directly to the Digital Director and will not have any direct reports. This role is essential in supporting the company's commitment to investing in state-of-the-art equipment and technology, as well as in the success of its diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Responding to support requests via phone, email, and in-person, ensuring timely resolution and documentation using GSM's IT Ticketing system.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Assisting with the setup and maintenance of user accounts, including password resets and access permissions.
  • Conducting regular system maintenance and updates to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assisting in the implementation and support of IT projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other IT team members to resolve complex issues and improve overall IT service delivery.
  • Providing training and guidance to users on best practices and efficient use of technology.
  • Maintaining an inventory of IT assets and ensuring proper asset management.
  • Assisting with technology moves and new office setups.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an IT support or help desk role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with network troubleshooting and basic understanding of network protocols.
  • Familiarity with IT ticketing systems and remote support tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) are preferred.
