About the position

The IT Technician position at Red Oak Technologies is a 6-month contract assignment based in San Jose, CA, with the possibility of extension or hire. The role requires the technician to work onsite from 9 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. The primary responsibilities include installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring that electrical safety standards are met. The technician will also be responsible for repairing or replacing damaged hardware and upgrading systems to enable compatible software on all computers. In addition to installation and configuration, the technician will develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures, perform tests and evaluations of new software and hardware, and provide support to users as the first point of contact for error reporting. Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues is essential, as is conducting daily backup operations and managing technical documentation. The role also includes asset management responsibilities, which involve conducting four physical asset audits per year and tracking inventory for equipment purchases, shipping, and assigning equipment to users.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance.
  • A+, Linux+, or Cisco Certified Network Associate accreditation advantageous.
  • Experience with Ansible deployment.
  • Experience with RHEL, CENTOS, ROCKY, UBUNTU, and other Linux-based OS installation, management, and support.
  • Asset Management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with software testing.
  • Knowledge of IT auditing and configuration management.
