About the position

The IT Telecommunications Engineer is an individual contributor role responsible for the design engineering and project planning/execution in support of Entergy's Telecommunication Transport Network. This includes managing inside and outside plant systems, communication protocols, and maintaining associated records. The position requires frequent travel within the Central Region of Louisiana to provide telecom engineering support for over 200 sites, ensuring effective communication systems are in place to meet operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide telecom engineering support for Entergy's Central Region operating footprint.
  • Support Entergy's operational companies through project scoping, estimate development, design, and execution of new fiber optic cable construction.
  • Design and implement new packet transport systems and support legacy communication systems on fiber optic cable and digital microwave systems.
  • Interact with various internal customers including Transmission, Relay Design, Grid Operations, Generation, Facilities, and IT.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver detailed engineering packages for field installation and testing of communication systems.
  • Create and maintain GIS information, hardware records, and service provisioning records in operational support systems.
  • Adhere to and improve Entergy Telecom Engineering design standards, following industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to implement effective project solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience as an IT Consultant; 8+ years desired.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience as an IT Specialist, Sr; 2+ years as IT Specialist, II; 0+ years as IT Specialist, I with a preferred Bachelor's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant professional certifications or licenses.
  • Experience with GIS database systems such as Connect Master, ArcGIS, or Small World.
  • Familiarity with work management systems like Service NOW or Remedy.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication-centric operational support systems such as Connect Master, MetaSolv, or TIRKS.
