About the position
The IT Telecommunications Engineering Consultant is an individual contributor role responsible for design engineering and project planning/execution in support of Entergy's Telecommunication Transport Network. This includes managing inside plant, outside plant, signals, communication systems, and protocols, as well as maintaining associated records. The position requires frequent travel within the Eastern Region of Mississippi and may involve leading complex technical problem resolutions and mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Provide telecom engineering support for Entergy's Eastern Region operating footprint.
- Lead resolution of complex technical problems through coordination with IT personnel, customers, and vendors.
- Provide expert analysis of proposed network changes regarding need, impact, future capability, and costs.
- Develop strategic and tactical plans for network expansion and reliability improvements.
- Serve as a Technical Mentor and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for junior engineers.
- Provide telecom engineering services for over 430 sites within the Eastern Region.
- Support project scoping, estimate development, design, and execution of new fiber optic cable construction.
- Design and implement new packet transport and support legacy communication systems on fiber optic cable and digital microwave systems.
- Interact with various internal customers including Transmission, Relay Design, and Grid Operations.
- Plan, develop, and deliver detailed engineering packages for field installation and testing.
- Create and maintain GIS information and service provisioning records in operational support systems.
- Adhere to and improve Entergy Telecom Engineering design standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of directly relevant experience for Senior IT Consultant; 5+ years for IT Consultant.
- Knowledge of telecom engineering, including inside/outside plant design and construction.
- Experience with packet-based transport and time-division multiplexing systems.
- Solid working knowledge of IP and relevant design software.
- Experience using GIS database systems and electronic work management systems.
- Familiarity with telecommunication-centric operational support systems.
