About the position

The Linguist II position focuses on developing language components for voice-enabled technologies and products, requiring expertise in various linguistic fields. The role involves data collection, synthesis, annotation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance machine learning models and improve digital assistant capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide linguistic expertise in syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics.
• Provide expertise in phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP.
• Build datasets, modify data pipelines, and train machine learning models.
• Create rules in rule-based systems and improve data quality for ML models.
• Communicate clearly with project stakeholders.
• Identify best practices and improve procedures across data systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance a digital assistant.
• Share work and provide feedback to teammates.
• Work with linguists and data operations teams on data collection and annotation efforts.
• Create annotation systems and guidelines.
• Evaluate and curate datasets for ML models.
• Assess model and data quality.
• Develop complex and consistent linguistic analyses.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Linguistics or related field with emphasis on Romance languages or Computational Linguistics.
• Native or near-native fluency in French and/or Italian.
• Knowledge of Italian and/or French linguistic and cultural norms.
• Experience with speech and text data in multiple languages.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• PhD in Linguistics or related field.
• Experience with database queries and data analysis processes (SQL, spreadsheets, R, Unix).
• Intermediate or above skills in Python.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks and NLP libraries.
