About the position

The ITIL Production Server Operations Administrator role at a prestigious financial company is a critical position that focuses on ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of production operations. This position requires a proactive approach to managing production systems, emphasizing continuous improvement (CI) and operational readiness. The candidate will work closely with various teams, including Production Control, Production Support, Release Management, Platform Services, Storage, Unix, Networking, Business Operations, and Change/Problem/Incident Management. The primary goal is to shift the operational posture from reactive to proactive, ensuring that production runs smoothly and efficiently. In this role, the administrator will analyze and report on production performance, capacity, and critical-path processing to identify CI opportunities. They will be responsible for troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues, collaborating with IT staff and vendors to perform testing and support functions. The administrator will also forecast system demands and recommend necessary upgrades, expansions, and reconfigurations. A key aspect of the role is to advocate for operational best practices and adhere to ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change Management. The administrator will actively participate in incident management, serving as a shepherd for production-related issues, and will analyze repeating alerts to proactively identify environmental issues. They will prioritize efforts based on production availability requirements and business priorities, and may be required to work after hours or on weekends during maintenance windows. This position is bonus eligible and offers the flexibility of remote work, making it an attractive opportunity for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on shifting the overall operational posture from reactive to proactive.
  • Analyze and report upon Production performance CI opportunities.
  • Analyze and report upon Production capacity CI opportunities.
  • Analyze and report upon Production critical-path processing CI opportunities.
  • Stand-up SWATs when needed to drive resolution of ongoing Production issues.
  • Identify and diagnose complex problems affecting Production performance.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems and take corrective actions.
  • Move between tactical and strategic planning, forecasting system demands and recommending upgrades.
  • Consult and evangelize for operational best practices.
  • Collaborate across domains to assist with application tuning.
  • Adhere to Production security requirements and best practices.
  • Advocate for all ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
  • Participate actively in Incident, Problem, and Change Management as a shepherd for Production.
  • Analyze repeating alerts to proactively identify environmental issues.
  • Surface environmental and operational risks identified.
  • Evangelize for repeatable automated processes that can be scaled.
  • Prioritize and align efforts to Production availability requirements and business priorities.
  • Be available for after hours and weekend work during off hours maintenance windows.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of ITIL principles
  • Understanding of technical monitoring and metrics
  • Sophisticated understanding of enterprise technology
  • Mature understanding of the relationship between software and hardware
  • Knowledge of the Clearing and Finance industry
  • Knowledge of Application life cycle and deployment
  • Problem/Incident management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years experience in production systems operations or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Strong ability to multi-task in an environment of constantly changing priorities.
