About the position

The ITIN Special Education ID Teacher position at South Charleston Middle School for the 2024-2025 academic year is designed for educators who are passionate about providing appropriate instruction to secondary students with special needs. The teacher will be responsible for ensuring that students meet the learning objectives and standards for their respective content and grade levels. This role requires a valid teaching certificate that licenses the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels as outlined by West Virginia Code. The teacher will work closely with special education students and teachers to implement a collaborative model that supports personalized learning for all students. The position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and entails a minimum employment term of 200 days annually, with the possibility of extended employment terms established by the Kanawha County Schools Board of Education (KCSBOE).

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate instruction to secondary students and ensure they meet learning objectives and standards.
  • Implement adopted and supplemental academic programs.
  • Incorporate 21st Century technology skills into the curriculum.
  • Plan and implement a collaborative model with special education students and teachers.
  • Plan and implement designated co-curricular activities and programs such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips.
  • Be accountable for individual student achievement.
  • Plan and implement personalized learning for all students.
  • Maintain strong communication skills with students, parents, and peers.
  • Implement programs designated by the principal for school improvement.
  • Maintain classroom control and discipline.
  • Perform supervisory and other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certificate for Middle School (grades 6-8) and Senior High (grades 9-12) as per WV Code §18A-3-2.
  • Criminal background check as per WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10.
  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
