About the position

This position is for the 2025-2026 school year. The Itinerant Art Teacher will work under the direction of the school principal to plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. The role involves creating an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Responsibilities include supervising students in various school-related settings, communicating with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders, designing student assessments, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, and analyzing assessment data. The teacher will also develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students while maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students using research-based instructional strategies, lecturing, demonstrating, and using appropriate instructional technology.
  • Designs engaging and rigorous instructional experiences following curriculum guidelines.
  • Delivers instruction and provides growth-producing feedback.
  • Administers assessments and records results to determine student progress.
  • Shares assessment results with students and parents to determine next steps in instruction.
  • Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentations.
  • Maintains attendance and grade records.
  • Teaches rules of conduct.
  • Maintains a positive classroom environment through effective classroom management techniques.
  • Communicates effectively with parents regarding student progress and problems.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrates professional growth.
  • Completes required records and reports promptly and accurately.
  • Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Coordinates class field trips.
  • Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
  • Encourages self-direction and self-motivation in students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
  • Exhibits evidence of effective lesson plans.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have or be eligible for an appropriate teaching license from the Virginia Department of Education.
