About the position

The Itinerant Behavioral Specialist Teacher (Multi-Categorical LD/BD/ID) with Autism Certification is responsible for implementing the assigned program of study and fostering a classroom climate conducive to learning. This position requires the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Policy 2419, monitoring student progress, and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, and educational personnel. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining professional work habits and adhering to the teacher code of conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the assigned program of study.
  • Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilizes instructional management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Develops and implements Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Policy 2419.
  • Monitors student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals on the IEPs.
  • Communicates effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Meets professional responsibilities.
  • Maintains and upgrades professional skills.
  • Maintains professional work habits.
  • Promotes and maintains positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Adheres to the teacher code of conduct.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • WV Teacher Certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism.
  • Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia State Board of Education.
  • Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
