About the position

The Itinerant Behavioral Specialist Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with multi-categorical disabilities, including Autism. This role involves developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs), fostering a positive learning environment, and collaborating with parents and educational staff to enhance student learning outcomes. The teacher will work closely with students to motivate and engage them in their educational journey, ensuring compliance with state educational standards and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the assigned program of study.
  • Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilizes instructional management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Develops and implements Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Policy 2419.
  • Monitors student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals on the IEPs.
  • Communicates effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Meets professional responsibilities and maintains professional work habits.
  • Promotes and maintains positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Adheres to the teacher code of conduct.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • WV Teacher Certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning.
  • Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with students with Autism and other disabilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and instructional tools.
