About the position

The Itinerant Child Care Worker (CCW) is responsible for providing quality educational support to students with disabilities. This role involves collaborating with certified teachers and other staff to implement educational programs, manage student behavior, and assist with daily living activities. The CCW plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students, particularly those with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies for behavioral management and academic goals.
  • Actively participate in building activities, meetings, and community-based instruction as determined by administration or certified teachers.
  • Assist in instruction and preparation of materials, and establish reward systems as directed by the certified teacher.
  • Assist with transportation and loading/unloading of students from buses and other vehicles.
  • Inform the certified teacher of any specific needs or concerns regarding students.
  • Assist in implementing community-based functional instructional programs.
  • Support students with medical, adaptive daily living, and self-care needs, including hygiene and toileting.
  • Lift and transfer students as needed.
  • Assist in pool activities under supervision and prepare students for such activities.
  • Perform record-keeping and organizational tasks related to student attendance and behavior plans.
  • Interact professionally with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community.
  • Serve as a positive role model and manage the physical setting to enhance learning.
  • Supervise students during school day activities, including before and after school, lunch, and recess.

Requirements

  • Completed a minimum of 60 college credits or obtained an associate's or higher degree.
  • Passed an MDE approved ETS Paraprofessional assessment.
  • Completed Employment Training Specialist certification training or willingness to obtain it.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention certification or willingness to obtain it.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
