About the position
The Itinerant Special Education Teacher (LD/BD/ID) with Autism is responsible for implementing educational programs tailored to students with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. This role involves developing Individual Education Programs (IEPs), fostering a conducive learning environment, and collaborating with parents and educational staff to enhance student learning outcomes. The teacher will also be expected to maintain professional standards and continuously improve their teaching practices.
Responsibilities
- Implements the assigned program of study.
- Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Utilizes instructional management systems that increase student learning and maximize time on task.
- Develops and implements Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Policy 2419.
- Monitors student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals on the IEPs.
- Communicates effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
- Meets professional responsibilities and maintains professional work habits.
- Promotes and maintains positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
- Adheres to the teacher code of conduct.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.
Requirements
- WV Teacher Certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
- Ability to motivate students and get them excited about learning.
- Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
