About the position

As a Programmer Advisor at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in transforming technology into opportunity by building and enhancing IT Service Management (ITSM) systems. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and integrate various applications and tools, including JIRA Service Management, Dynatrace, Sailpoint, and Active Directory, within a secure environment tailored for the Space Force. This position requires a deep understanding of programming languages and systems software, as you will be tasked with coding applications, designing integrations, and maintaining the ITSM system to ensure it operates efficiently and effectively. In this role, you will work closely with the Space Force customer to gather and understand their requirements, leading a team of programmers to deliver the ITSM system. You will be responsible for building, configuring, and maintaining the JIRA Service Management system, utilizing your programming skills to integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products to monitor, manage, and automate ITSM processes. Your work will involve designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining operating systems and software, as well as troubleshooting issues and providing customer support for software systems. You will also have the opportunity to coach and guide less-experienced professionals, serving as a team or task lead when necessary. This position not only requires technical expertise but also strong analytical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities to continuously improve the systems in place. With a focus on innovation and improvement, your contributions will directly impact how agencies operate and enhance their capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build and code applications and/or models using various computer programming languages.
  • Work directly with the Space Force customer to understand requirements.
  • Lead other programmers in the delivery of the ITSM system and collaborate with the engineering team to design integrations.
  • Build, configure, and maintain the ITSM system (JIRA Service Management) for the Space Force's digital environment.
  • Utilize programming skills to integrate COTS products like JIRA, Confluence, Sailpoint, and Dynatrace to monitor, manage, and automate ITSM processes.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain operating systems and operating system software.
  • Install enhancements and perform updates to software of existing systems, including middleware and application programs.
  • Perform troubleshooting of problems and provide customer support for software systems and application issues.
  • Debug problems with system software and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Perform maintenance tasks to keep systems running smoothly.
  • Write and update test procedures.
  • Coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals.
  • Serve as a team or task lead.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of related experience in programming and ITSM.
  • IAT Level II or higher certification (minimum Security + CE).
  • Integration experience of COTS tools utilizing Java Script, plugins, and SOAP/Rest APIs, XML, JQuery, Python, Java, JSON, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with API development and integration with third-party authentication and monitoring tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creativity and group leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • History with both Dynatrace and JIRA is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with JIRA Service Management (JSM) application and JSM Webhooks.
