About the position

The Janitor position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in buildings and grounds. This role involves various cleaning tasks, ensuring that facilities are well-kept and ready for use, and may require working overtime or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming.
• Gather and empty trash and take all trash to appropriate dumpsters.
• Launder rags.
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
• Clean windows, dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
• Mix water and detergents in appropriate containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
• Steam clean or shampoo carpets, strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
• Drive vehicles to required locations to perform cleaning duties.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors, building walls, and grounds.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks.
• Notify managers concerning the need for equipment and building repairs.
• Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas using tractor plow, snow blowers, snow shovels, ice chippers, and spread snow melting chemicals.
• Set up, arrange and remove decorations, tables, chairs and ladders to prepare facilities for events such as meetings and other work events.
• Other duties as assigned by the Janitor Lead.

Requirements

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, write and understand written English.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to give verbal and written direction to assigned staff.
