About the position
The Janitor/Custodian position is a part-time role focused on maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in buildings. The role involves performing various cleaning tasks, routine maintenance, and ensuring that facilities are prepared for events. The position is essential for creating a safe and pleasant environment for all building occupants.
Responsibilities
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, or vacuuming.
- Gather and empty trash.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals.
- Mow or trim lawns or shrubbery, using mowers or hand or power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds.
- Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
- Make adjustments or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to read and follow cleaning procedures and check sheets to an acceptable degree.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
- Attention to detail.
- Team-work oriented attitude.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous cleaning experience preferred but not required.
