About the position

The Janitor/Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in buildings. This role involves performing heavy cleaning duties, routine maintenance, and ensuring the safety and security of the premises. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to follow safety procedures while using cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition.
• Perform heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
• Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use.
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
• Gather and empty trash.
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
• Follow procedures for the safe use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Mix water and detergents or acids to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
• Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaners.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs.
• Basic understanding of cleaning procedures and safety protocols.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in training and development.
• Previous experience in a custodial or janitorial role.
