The Janitor position at Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) involves maintaining cleanliness and safety across two properties in Chicago, IL. The role requires a focus on customer service and adherence to safety policies while performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks. The janitor will be responsible for cleaning public areas, vacant units, and assisting with basic maintenance as needed.

Responsibilities

• Cleans all hallways, public areas, vacant apartments, parking areas, sidewalks, and alleyways.
• Maintains exterior cleanliness including lawn care, window washing, snow removal, and trash pickup.
• Dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings, and polishes light fixtures.
• Performs light maintenance including appliance and plumbing troubleshooting.
• Cleans and maintains appliances and on-site management offices.
• Assists in inventory control of janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Reports maintenance problems immediately and notifies supervisors when extra garbage pickups are needed.
• Ensures proper use of equipment and safety procedures in accordance with OSHA and HHDC standards.
• Transports equipment to various properties as needed.
• Assists on other properties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Full-time janitorial experience.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Good safety habits with cleaning supplies.
• Organizational and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work with lawn machinery and power tools.
• Plumbing and mechanical aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

• Certificate of Training Program completion preferred.
• UPCS Inspections certification a plus.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish may be required depending on resident demographic needs.
