About the position

The Japanese Bilingual Tax Manager will play a crucial role in the tax practice of a CPA firm, overseeing tax compliance, planning, and consulting for corporate clients. This position serves as the primary contact for assigned clients, managing the engagement team to deliver effective tax solutions, including tax return preparation and strategic tax planning advice.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation and review of corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing high-quality tax services and strategic tax planning advice.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of tax work, reviewing complex tax returns and documents before submission.
  • Conduct research to interpret complex tax issues and stay current with evolving tax laws.
  • Examine and analyze work by junior and senior team members, developing complex tax provisions for financial statements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients and lead client meetings to ensure satisfaction.
  • Identify solutions to address client concerns, including strategies for minimizing tax liabilities.
  • Establish effective communication to cultivate business relationships.
  • Develop expertise in tax concepts and apply this knowledge to client situations.
  • Coordinate and oversee multiple tax engagements, managing workload and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Supervise and mentor staff and senior associates, providing guidance and support.
  • Evaluate the work of staff and deliver timely performance feedback.
  • Assist in special projects and other duties as directed by Partners and Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Bilingual Japanese and English language skills (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • CPA designation or relevant certification, actively working toward passing the CPA Exam if not already attained.
  • Minimum 5 years of tax experience in a CPA firm, focusing on corporate/business tax returns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in corporate tax compliance, planning, and advisory services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with foreign tax issues (5471, 5472, tax treaties, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of professionals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
