About the position

The Java Architect with AWS role is focused on leading a team of developers to build and enhance an application development platform. This position requires collaboration with various development teams to define strategic directions, develop tactical plans, and ensure that business needs are met through effective solutioning and implementation of high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Developers in building out the Application development Platform composed of Java Developers.
• Collaborate with Development Teams to identify patterns and strategies for the Platform team, prioritizing them in alignment with business needs.
• Define strategic direction and develop tactical plans for the platform.
• Work with application and infrastructure teams to provision platform components.
• Occasionally augment critical projects through direct involvement and hands-on contributions such as prototyping and developing critical modules.
• Work through all aspects of solutioning from requirements design and build through deployment and evolution.
• Translate business requirements into working foundational components for the platform, ensuring functional and non-functional aspects are met.
• Identify opportunities for change, implement change, and introduce new concepts, procedures, policies, and tools with clear explanations of benefits and purpose.
• Work with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams, leading by example to other application development groups.

Requirements

• Proficient in Java stack including Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience in fullstack solution design and implementation.
• Expertise in designing and implementing high-performance enterprise-scale distributed systems.
• Knowledge of distributed caching patterns.
• Strong grasp of integration patterns including endpoint messaging, streaming, and callbacks, along with the trade-offs associated with each approach.
• Familiarity with API platform engineering fundamentals, including Open API spec, API gateways, and OAuth integration.
• Experience in profiling and performance optimization, including threading, memory management, and JVM optimization.
• Experience building and implementing solutions for containerized environments, ideally On-Prem and Cloud.
• Ability to design and build low latency applications.
• Experience with API gateways for at least 3 years.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture, including defining application boundaries and service mesh.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, observability, and containerization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with public clouds, ideally AWS.
• Industry knowledge in the financial sector, particularly in capital markets and wealth management.
