About the position

The Java Developer Senior position at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) involves developing and maintaining information exchange systems that support public health policy decision-making in Minnesota. The role is critical in aggregating and analyzing health information to improve the well-being of all Minnesotans. The position offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment, balancing remote work with in-office responsibilities, and is part of a team that manages over 250 applications for the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of information exchange systems for public health.
• Design and develop interfaces between MDH's information systems and external systems from healthcare providers and government agencies.
• Support the aggregation and analysis of health information to inform public health policies.
• Collaborate with team members to implement best practices in software development.

Requirements

• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Java programming.
• Ability to deliver effective verbal or written communication.
• Strong customer service skills, including active listening and problem-solving.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience developing electronic data interchange solutions.
• Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
• Familiarity with delimited text, XML, and JSON data formats.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Knowledge of Apache Camel or Spring Integration Framework.
• Experience with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) integration.
• Experience with HL7 based integration.
