About the position

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Java Developer to join our team in supporting the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. This position is critical to the EMMETT program, which focuses on Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and involves the development of a next-generation Indications and Warning (I&W) system. The successful candidate will be responsible for the TS/SCI Java software development of various modules, utilizing advanced programming techniques such as event-driven and state-driven programming, error logging, and exception handling. In this role, you will engage in software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services at multiple levels, including unit, module, and system levels. You will be expected to perform all aspects of software engineering support necessary for the implementation of systems, adhering to open standards and modern software development methodologies. Your contributions will include providing technical reports, white papers, and documentation to capture the findings of all software engineering service activities. The EMMETT team is dedicated to establishing a repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identifying RSOs of interest, and delivering data to ground operators. As part of this talented and high-performing team, you will work with emerging service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness data processing and distribution, making a significant impact on national security missions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide TS/SCI Java software development of modules using techniques such as event-driven or state-driven programming, error logging, and exception handling.
  • Perform TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services at the unit, module, and system levels.
  • Implement all aspects of software engineering support required to develop systems.
  • Adhere to open standards and modern software development methodologies, following industry best practices as operational requirements allow.
  • Prepare technical reports, white papers, and other documentation to document findings from software engineering activities.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Possess a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at the customer's request.
  • Proficient with Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO).
  • Experience with cloud architecture and using containers (Docker).
  • Experience developing software on Unix-based operating systems such as RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Familiarity with the Spring framework and JUnit test creation.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL and REDIS, including understanding queries and commands.
  • Experience working with Linux distributions and command navigation.
  • Familiarity with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Working knowledge of web application basics such as HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or working towards certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python or Perl.
  • Familiar with web server configuration on NGINX, Apache, or similar.
  • Familiar with Bootstrap and Less.
  • Familiar with Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes using Spring Boot.
  • Experience using AWS as a developer.
  • Experience with build/deploy tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers and integrating their components into a larger framework.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace.
