About the position

The Java Developer position is a 12-month contract role within a large financial company located in Tallahassee. The primary responsibility of this role is to code, modify, debug, and document software applications that align with business requirements. The developer will work on moderately complex applications, ensuring effective programming practices and adherence to software specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, develop, modify, debug and evaluate moderately complex software for functional areas.
  • Analyze existing software or formulate logic for moderately complex new systems and devise algorithms.
  • Perform data analysis and test/debug software.
  • Design and apply basic data sources while applying effective programming security practices.
  • Execute test plans and develop conversion and system implementation plans.
  • Regularly create and execute unit tests and employ source code control techniques.
  • Assist with successful configuration management and gather/analyze data for system and programming documentation.
  • Assist with implementation of changes in development, maintenance, and system standards, and in the creation of software specifications.
  • Regularly report progress on projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field OR 4 years of relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant work experience equivalent to 4 years.
  • Typically 2 - 5 years of development experience.
  • Knowledge of secure software development.
  • Intermediate skills in design, development, modification, and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Experience with common programming tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
