The Java Developer position at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) involves providing leadership in the adaptation and use of Java development tools and methods. The role requires collaboration with various business areas to develop solutions and modernize existing applications, contributing to the agency's mission of creating innovative transportation solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the diverse application portfolio including vendor cloud applications and in-house Java and .NET applications.
  • Provide consulting to various development teams on application support, development, and modernization efforts.
  • Participate in the development of complex departmental Enterprise and Modal Support systems.
  • Collaborate with business areas, IT staff, and third-party vendors to enhance efficiencies across multiple technical environments.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and be part of a professional IT team.

Requirements

  • Experience performing analysis of application systems leading to solution recommendations for development/enhancements.
  • Proficiency in programming and implementing web application solutions using JAVA 21+, Spring/Spring Boot, Angular, and WebSphere Liberty.
  • Experience with development tools such as IntelliJ, GitHub.com, and/or Jira.
  • Experience in modernizing frameworks for Java applications.
  • Experience with automating unit testing using tools like Selenium.
  • Experience in developing, testing, and deploying robust Java applications using industry-leading technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience reviewing business requirements and translating them into technical requirements.
