About the position

The Software Engineer (Java) role is a full-time contractor position focused on developing prototypes for a big data application within a gaming client environment. The engineer will collaborate closely with Data Scientists and other teams to analyze, design, and develop software prototypes, ensuring effective communication and teamwork across various functions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop prototypes for big data applications using Java.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to analyze and design software solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams for testing, documentation, and maintenance of products.
  • Participate in the full software product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • BS or Master in Computer Science or related technical degree and three years of relevant work experience; or five years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Three or more years of solid hands-on Java development experience in a product development setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one full software product development lifecycle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work well on cross-functional project teams with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Problem-solving skills, including debugging, profiling, log file, and thread dump analysis.
  • Understanding of relational database applications and applications with abstracted data access layers.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant software design, multi-threading, and secure software development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Leadership experience in small to medium-sized teams; team lead or design lead.
  • Experience interacting with offshore teams and software due diligence.
  • Experience developing applications linked to MS SQL, MySQL, or NoSQL.
  • Experience designing and implementing multi-threaded applications in Java.
  • Experience developing C or C++ applications for the Microsoft Windows platform.
  • Familiarity with Ehcache, XML file manipulation, and WebLogic.
