About the position

BCforward is seeking a highly motivated Java Developer to join their team in Jersey City, NJ. This contract position involves developing Market Data APIs and operational tools in Java, while collaborating closely with senior technologists from various departments. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and technical skills, along with a solid background in software development and experience with latency-critical, high-throughput distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop Market Data APIs and related operational tools in Java
• Create performance and diagnostic tools to assist in debugging market data systems
• Provide 3rd level support as the highest level of internal technical escalation
• Work with CI/CD tooling including Git, Jira, and Ansible
• Adhere to CI/CD processes and maintain strong discipline in development practices
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and development teams to ensure effective communication and project delivery
• Develop and maintain knowledge of Market Data Distribution technologies such as Refinitiv and Bloomberg
• Implement microservices and full-stack development practices when necessary.

Requirements

• Multiple years of experience in software development
• Excellent scripting ability in Bash and Python
• Good knowledge of network technologies (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast, Routing Protocols, Security)
• Strong working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating environments
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Git, Jira, Ansible)
• Excellent data structures skills and multi-threaded programming
• Experience writing and working with latency critical, high throughput distributed systems
• Understanding of RESTful principles and best practices
• Experience in financial market applications and exchange data flows
• Expert knowledge of consolidated and direct feeds.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in microservices/full stack development (Spring Boot, Drop Wizard, Hibernate, HTML5)
• Familiarity with Refinitiv RFA, RTAPI, and Bloomberg market data APIs
• Knowledge of market data content from multiple providers.
