About the position

The State of Michigan's Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking a skilled Java Full-Stack/React Developer to join their dynamic team. This hybrid role focuses on developing, maintaining, and enhancing web applications that support transportation initiatives and services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Java development and proficiency in React.js, with experience in a government or public sector environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement web applications using Java and React.js to meet the needs of MDOT.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, UX/UI designers, and other developers, to gather requirements and create technical specifications.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to best practices and coding standards.
• Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing applications for performance and scalability.
• Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and propose enhancements to existing applications and development processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Java development and React.js.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and ORM frameworks.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in government or public sector software development.
• Familiarity with transportation systems or logistics applications.
• Knowledge of cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and DevOps practices.
