About the position

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a JavaScript Developer to support the IT program at a major national laboratory. The mission of Customer Engagement is to empower mission-focused scientific and engineering communities. As a JavaScript Developer, you will be involved in various tasks that include collaborating with others to investigate, plan, gather requirements, design, develop, test, document, analyze problems, and support software systems and applications. You will develop high-performance web applications using JavaScript frameworks such as React and Vue.js, and work closely with customers and end-users to define and document application requirements. Your role will also involve testing, debugging, and refactoring both frontend and backend web application code, translating detailed designs into application systems, and preparing required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation. Additionally, you will enhance applications to improve performance and add functionality, provide interactive issue troubleshooting, and follow user issue tickets through to resolution. You will document resolutions in a knowledge base and work with application and system owners to identify advanced solutions. This position requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to operate in a dynamic environment, continuously improving processes and skills while maintaining exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with others to investigate, plan, gather requirements, design, develop, test, document, analyze problems, and support software systems and applications.
  • Develop high-performance web applications using JavaScript (React, Vue.js, Node).
  • Work closely with customers and end-users to define and document application requirements.
  • Test, debug, and refactor frontend and backend web application code.
  • Translate detailed design into application systems.
  • Prepare required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation.
  • Enhance applications to improve performance and add functionality.
  • Provide interactive issue troubleshooting, following user issue tickets through to resolution, documenting resolutions in a knowledge base, and working with application and system owners to identify advanced solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (8 years in lieu of a degree).
  • 2 years of experience in software engineering or related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q clearance.
  • Experience with software engineering standard methodologies.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript (pre-ES6 and ES6/7), React, Next.js, Node, HTML/CSS, Git, MySQL, SQL, MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright).
  • Experience with automation, orchestration, continuous integration, and continuous delivery including tools such as Docker, GitLab CI, and OpenShift.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify creative solutions.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic environment and motivated to continuously improve processes and skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and prioritization skills.
