About the position

The Java Software Developer position at Jacobs involves supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including supporting design reviews, developing designs, and conducting unit and system level testing. This role requires the implementation of custom, mission-unique software packages that support the MDSEA platform and various space-based missions. The developer will also be tasked with creating web-based applications for both internal users and external customers, ensuring that all software meets the necessary operational standards through rigorous testing processes. In addition to development responsibilities, the Java Software Developer will be expected to update and deliver documentation related to the software and its functionalities. The role demands a high level of productivity and independence, particularly in a fast-paced development and operations environment. The candidate may also need to support occasional shift work and weekend work to accommodate higher-level MDA testing events. This position is critical in ensuring that the software solutions provided are robust, efficient, and tailored to meet the unique needs of the MDA and its missions.

Responsibilities

  • Support design reviews and develop designs for software applications.
  • Design, conduct, and document unit and system level testing.
  • Implement custom, mission-unique software packages for the MDSEA platform.
  • Develop web-based applications for in-house users and external customers.
  • Conduct software unit, integration, developmental, and operational testing.
  • Update and deliver documentation related to software applications.
  • Work productively and independently in a fast-paced development and operations environment.
  • Support occasional shift work and possible weekend work for MDA testing events.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma (or GED) and 12 years of general experience, or an Associate's degree and 10 years of general experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of general experience, or a Master's degree and 6 years of general experience.
  • Must have 7 years of related experience in software development, application integration, or enterprise application integration (EAI).
  • Must have 3 years of experience in a management or leadership role.
  • Must have experience in Linux environments.
  • Must have experience with Agile development and knowledge of DevOps.
  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Must have a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hybrid computing network requirements, design, implementation, and deployment.
  • Experience with MDA or DoD customers.
  • Experience with communication networks (DISN, SIPRNet).
  • Experience working with XML, JMS, application servers, PKI, and MySQL database servers.
  • Experience with JavaFX, Persistence, and Hibernate.
  • Experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with containerized application development, including docker/podman and OpenShift.
