About the position

The Java Technical Lead will play a crucial role in establishing and leading the Software Engineering practice at Ascella Technologies. This position involves providing technical direction, managing engineering teams, and developing best practices in software development and agile methodologies. The lead will also be responsible for enhancing business growth through strategic proposals and ensuring high-quality IT solutions are delivered across various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and architecture recommendations across projects.
  • Lead engineering teams to build high-quality IT solutions.
  • Develop internal best practices for DevOps.
  • Spread agile development practices and develop proposal win-strategies to grow the business line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field from an accredited college/university.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in managing software development projects (projects for Federal clients preferred).
  • Prior experience managing small to medium sized engineering teams (4+) involving multi-discipline engineers (Full Stack, DevOps, Data, etc.) and testing/quality assurance.
  • Prior experience as a technical lead, providing engineering management and architecture vision across full stack web development technologies (i.e., Java, Angular, Python, Node.js, React, Flask/Django, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills; will need to be a key POC with the client.
  • Expertise in running and managing agile development teams using best-in-class methods.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of metrics and SLAs as successful performance management tools in past projects (e.g., successful uptime).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently multitask, prioritize, and carry out projects through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated analytical, reasoning, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and independent thinker with high energy/positive attitude.
  • U.S. Citizenship required (dual nationals not eligible).
  • Position may require a background investigation and/or obtaining a Public Trust clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical certifications (including PMP, ITIL v3, SAFe).
  • Prior experience with SQL.
  • Prior experience with Java, Python.
