About the position

The Job Coach/Employment Specialist position at Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida focuses on providing comprehensive employment services to refugees, helping them achieve self-sufficiency through tailored support and resources. The role involves assessing client eligibility, developing individual employment plans, and coordinating with local employers to facilitate job placements. This position is essential in empowering refugees to integrate into the workforce and navigate their new environment effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange, coordinate, and provide services to clients with a goal of self-sufficiency.
  • Assess clients' eligibility to receive services within the employment program.
  • Plan and conduct an initial program orientation targeting client career goals.
  • Develop an individual employment plan (IEP) with short and long-term goals.
  • Document and maintain all case activities within required timeframes.
  • Work with local employers to identify employment opportunities for client placement.
  • Identify, match, and monitor work participation activities necessary for benefits.
  • Make client referrals to appropriate programs/agencies.
  • Act as an interpreter/translator when possible or utilize an interpreter service.
  • Provide transportation and educate clients on public transportation services.
  • Develop and maintain employer relationships for client placement activities.
  • Participate in performance-related goal setting and achievement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of recipient/staff information.
  • Report recipient/staff complaints and problems to supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge of social services for refugees and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Prepare written reports of activities as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of staffing/employment experience preferred.
  • Experience involving direct client services with foreign-born populations preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record required.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and knowledge.
  • Ability to track and report data regularly.
  • Customer service, research, and networking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4-year College Degree preferred.
  • Language skills in Creole, Arabic, Russian, Farsi, Burmese, or Spanish preferred.
