The Job Developer position at United Activities Unlimited, Inc. (UAU) in Staten Island, NY, is a full-time role within the Workforce Development division. The primary focus of this position is to support local youth in their transition into the workforce through career counseling, job placement, and internship opportunities. The Job Developer will work closely with the Program Director and Assistant Director of Employer Engagement and Marketing to ensure that participants receive the necessary guidance and support to achieve their employment goals. This role is crucial in helping at-risk youth who are out of work and out of school, providing them with a structured 60-week program that includes a 6-week hands-on educational component followed by internships and a year of follow-up services. The Job Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses to create job opportunities for youth participants. They will facilitate both individual and group career services, helping participants to create individualized career plans and find suitable job placements. The role also involves tracking the progress of participants, providing mentorship, and ensuring that they receive the necessary follow-up support as they transition into the workforce. The Job Developer will manage a caseload of up to 80 participants, ensuring that all documentation is maintained accurately and in compliance with organizational standards. In addition to direct job placement responsibilities, the Job Developer will participate in professional development activities, attend case reviews, and assist in running workshops alongside educational specialists. This position requires a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve the program's objectives. The Job Developer will play a vital role in empowering youth and helping them navigate their career paths effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and support participants in obtaining long-term job placements.
  • Place and monitor participants' internships following DYCD guidelines after the educational component.
  • Work alongside Case Managers and Educational Specialists to ensure participants meet their short- and long-term goals.
  • Develop and maintain working partnerships with local businesses to create job opportunities for youth.
  • Facilitate individual and group career services and college readiness services to participants.
  • Develop individualized career plans for each participant and find job placements for youth in each cohort.
  • Track and provide mentorship for youth as they enter and engage in the workforce.
  • Advise and coach participants to ensure success through advocacy, support, and guidance.
  • Provide follow-up and retention services for youth exiting programming.
  • Collect, maintain, and audit participant files for completion and accuracy according to DYCD and UAU standards.
  • Network within the local business community to promote UAU services.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 80 participants, building systems to support youth employment.
  • Complete monthly case notes on each participant per DYCD standards and attend necessary inter-office meetings.
  • Participate in professional conferences and self-directed professional development activities.
  • Assist with departmental duties and projects as needed.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience in youth services or working with vulnerable populations in a job development capacity or related field.
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and GSuite platforms.
  • Reliable means of transportation.
  • Competency in strategic planning and program design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently.
