About the position

The Financial Auditor position at the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) is responsible for ensuring the fiscal and financial stability, accountability, and integrity of the government. The role involves monitoring, reviewing, and maintaining financial audit programs for sports wagering operators, ensuring compliance with federal and District laws and regulations. The auditor will conduct financial audits, analyze financial systems, and provide recommendations to enhance financial control and reporting processes.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, review, and maintain financial audit programs for sports wagering operators.
• Review and make recommendations regarding the approval of financial control systems and accounting procedures.
• Coordinate, plan, and conduct financial audits and evaluate risks.
• Analyze and evaluate the status of accounting and reporting systems, records, statements, and internal controls.
• Conduct audits, prepare audit findings and recommendations, and draft audit reports for review.
• Observe financial transactions and activities at licensed sports wagering facilities and interview personnel on practices and procedures.
• Analyze complex financial procedures, transactions, and data.
• Review monthly journal entries and month-end close out procedures for all licensed operators.
• Review reports and tax submissions for accuracy and timeliness.
• Assist in developing financial audit programs and checklists.
• Assist with drafting internal policies and procedures and making updates to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate with relevant OLG departments and outside entities about various financial audit issues.

Requirements

• Three years of progressive experience in financial auditing and compliance monitoring.
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and auditing principles (GASB, GAAP, FASB).
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with 24 semester hours in accounting.
