About the position

The Development Research Analyst position at California State University, Bakersfield, is a full-time role under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Development. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the major gift fundraising team by coordinating the internal moves management process for the Campaign, conducting prospect research, and preparing proposals. The Analyst will be a primary member of the Development team, collaborating closely with all members of University Advancement and volunteer leaders to facilitate the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts that support campus-wide fundraising efforts. In this role, the Development Research Analyst will be responsible for proactive prospecting, moves management tracking, and prospect management. The Analyst will utilize wealth screening data and other tools to build, evaluate, maintain, and rate a qualified pool of prospects. This position requires applying best practices and policies to identify individual prospects and grant-making foundations that align with the Development team's goals. The Analyst will prepare comprehensive biographical and financial profiles by interpreting and synthesizing large volumes of complex data, providing analysis on donor giving patterns, and conducting regular database screenings to identify prospective major gift donors. Additionally, the Analyst will assist in generating database reports, maintaining campaign and annual gift tracking, and preparing major gift proposals to support fundraising initiatives. This role also involves cross-training with the Data Analyst/Prospect Lead to ensure the accuracy and completeness of advancement data.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating the internal moves management process for the Campaign.
  • Perform prospect research and prepare proposals that support the work of the major gift fundraising team.
  • Support database management, prospect research, and moves management tracking.
  • Build, evaluate, maintain, and rate a qualified pool of prospects using wealth screening data.
  • Prepare comprehensive biographical and financial profiles/reports for potential donors.
  • Conduct prospect research using online tools to identify current and prospective donors.
  • Research and prepare prospect profiles for major gift fundraisers and university leadership.
  • Generate database reports and assist with maintaining campaign and annual gift tracking.
  • Research donors' biographical information and philanthropic interests to prepare major gift proposals.
  • Assist in the production of marketing materials and data visualizations of fundraising information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training.
  • Three (3) years of recent administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation.
  • Experience in drafting proposals for existing and prospective donors.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Knowledge of moves management process for major gift donors and prospective donors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biographical and financial reference sources.
  • Ability to compile, write, and present reports related to prospect research findings.
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work.
  • Skill in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs.
  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information.
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and competence with various applications.
