About the position

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior Data Management Engineer to join their team in San Jose, CA. This role involves analyzing customer requirements, designing and developing data management applications for the electricity market, and providing expert support for software releases. The engineer will also engage in discussions with stakeholders and customers, ensuring adherence to best engineering practices while promoting safety and integrity in all actions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and understand customer engineering, business, and software requirements.
  • Propose technically feasible solutions and estimate required effort.
  • Identify risks and formulate implementation approaches and assumptions.
  • Design, develop, test, integrate, and document Data Management applications for electricity market projects.
  • Support software releases and assist onsite/support teams with expert knowledge.
  • Conduct problem analysis, troubleshoot, and resolve defects to bring issues to closure.
  • Research and enhance knowledge in data management skills for market operation and power system analysis.
  • Support and improve software development practices and documentation.
  • Represent the company in internal and external discussions, including customer meetings and industry gatherings.
  • Travel for short periods to visit or support customers around the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience in electricity markets.
  • Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electricity markets is preferred.
  • Formal education in Electrical Power Systems Optimization and Data Structures and Databases.
  • Experience with Electrical Power Systems Network Modeling and Analysis.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using high-performance programming languages such as FORTRAN or C/C++.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using Linux or AIX operating systems.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience developing power system application software for the Electricity Market.
  • Proficient English written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multi-threading and high-performance, memory-intensive analytical applications.
