About the position

The Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech in the Stepdown Unit is responsible for providing administrative support and monitoring telemetry patients for cardiac arrhythmias. This role involves greeting patients and visitors, communicating vital information to staff, and ensuring the smooth operation of the unit by managing supplies and documentation. The position requires a blend of customer service skills and technical knowledge in monitoring cardiac rhythms.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, visitors, and guests to the unit.
  • Communicates information to appropriate staff and departments.
  • Enters patient information into the computer system.
  • Monitors telemetry patients for cardiac arrhythmias and notifies nursing staff of changes.
  • Accurately documents rhythm strips according to unit specifications.
  • Measures and interprets cardiac rhythms accurately.
  • Orders supplies and assists staff in serving the needs of families and patients.
  • Maintains organization of the unit and materials.
  • Follows MUSC Standards of Behaviors.
  • Performs miscellaneous and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of office experience with customer contact preferred in a hospital or medical setting.
  • Basic computer skills are helpful.
  • Successful completion of medical terminology must be obtained within one year.
  • Certification as an EKG technician or successful completion of a telemetry program required.
  • 1 year of experience or completion of basic arrhythmia training within 6 months is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a monitor technician preferred but not required.
