About the position

As the Director of People Operations at United Way of Greater Kansas City, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the human resources landscape of our organization. This position is designed for a strategic leader who will oversee all aspects of human resources management, ensuring that our HR strategies align with the overall mission and goals of the organization. Reporting directly to the Vice President of People and Operations, you will leverage your extensive experience in HR to foster a thriving, diverse, and agile workplace. Your responsibilities will encompass developing and executing HR strategies that not only attract and retain top talent but also promote a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and continuous improvement. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting and implementing HR policies and procedures that enhance employee satisfaction and promote fairness and transparency. You will oversee the talent acquisition process, ensuring that we recruit top-tier candidates across all departments. This includes everything from job postings and resume screening to interviewing and selection. You will also develop innovative sourcing methods to build a strong talent pipeline and implement effective onboarding programs to ensure new employees are successfully integrated into our organization. Your leadership will extend to employee development and engagement, where you will foster a culture of continuous learning and growth. You will identify training needs, coordinate training programs, and track participation to evaluate the effectiveness of these initiatives. Additionally, you will administer annual employee engagement surveys and develop initiatives aimed at enhancing job satisfaction and retention. As part of your responsibilities, you will implement a performance development system that provides ongoing feedback and opportunities for growth. You will guide managers in conducting performance conversations and setting performance goals, while also monitoring performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. Effective internal communication will be another key focus, as you will develop strategies that align with our organizational goals and culture. This includes managing internal communication channels and coordinating monthly staff meetings. You will also oversee compensation, payroll, and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations while maintaining competitive compensation packages. Your role will involve serving as a trusted point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, conducting investigations into grievances, and collaborating with legal counsel as necessary. Finally, you will champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, working closely with our internal DEI Committee to create an inclusive work environment. By implementing HR analytics, you will measure the effectiveness of HR programs and utilize data-driven insights to drive improvements across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and execute HR strategies that support UWGKC's short and long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with Vice President, People and Operations to align HR objectives with overall business objectives.
  • Evolve and implement HR policies and procedures that promote fairness, transparency, and employee satisfaction.
  • Oversee and assist in the talent acquisition process, ensuring the recruitment of top-tier candidates across all departments.
  • Develop innovative sourcing methods and build a strong talent pipeline.

  • Manage and maintain internal Microsoft Teams channels, ensuring consistent and timely dissemination of information.
  • Coordinate all aspects of monthly staff meetings, including scheduling, agenda creation and technology setup.
  • Liaise with third party HR vendor to manage benefits, HRIS configuration, data entry, maintenance, and ensure accurate and up-to-date employee records.
  • Assist with the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits packages.
  • Collect, verify, and process employee timekeeping data accurately and efficiently to ensure timely and accurate payroll runs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and conduct regular benchmarking to ensure competitiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant compensation laws and regulations.
  • Serve as a trusted and impartial point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints or grievances, maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel when necessary to mitigate legal risks.
  • Champion DEI initiatives and foster an inclusive and diverse work environment by collaborating with our internal DEI Committee to achieve annual goals and priorities.
  • Develop strategies to attract, retain, and advance a diverse workforce.
  • Implement HR analytics to measure the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in progressively responsible HR/operations leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align HR strategies with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in talent acquisition, employee development, and performance development.
  • Experience implementing successful DEI initiatives and positively enhancing organizational culture.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting is a plus.
