About the position

The Membership Director at the Leawood Chamber of Commerce is a strategic role focused on driving membership growth and retention. This position is essential for shaping the organization's membership composition and enhancing community engagement. The director will implement sales and marketing strategies to attract new members and strengthen relationships within the community, all while advocating for local businesses and fostering a thriving environment for economic development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute membership acquisition and retention plans to drive growth and engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing members to ensure satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve budgeted revenue goals for Chamber membership, Economic Development Council investors, retention and sponsorship sales targets.
  • Identify and cultivate new leads and prospects through targeted outreach phone calls, in-person meetings, networking, and strategic partnerships.
  • Oversee new member onboarding and conduct quarterly Member Connections workshops.
  • Serve as the staff liaison for the Ambassador Committee, identifying and onboarding new committee members.
  • Coordinate special events supporting members through ribbon cuttings.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Programming and Communications to assist in creating, planning and promoting chamber events, including Business After Hours and Morning Mingling to drive attendance, engagement and secure sponsorships.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date membership records and CRM entries.
  • Develop methods for engaging new and long-standing members, ensuring retention, timely billing and follow-up.
  • Lead membership retention activities in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Identify and engage individual member employees to participate in Leadership Leawood.
  • Manage sponsorship fulfillment to ensure sponsor satisfaction.
  • Support past-due account collections in coordination with the Vice President of Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • 3+ years proven experience in sales, business development, fundraising or nonprofit coordination/management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/database systems; social media knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with Leawood and Johnson County is beneficial.
